Richard Burton was appointed General Manager, Hong Kong
Branch in February 2000 and Regional Managing Director for
Greater China in July 2000.
Richard Burton studied Mathematics at Kent University,
England. In 1992, he gained an MBA specialising in Finance
from City University Business
School in London, England.
Since his arrival in Hong Kong, Richard Burton successfully
developed Coface Greater China into a leading provider of
trade credit insurance and credit management services,
including managing the acquisitions and the establishment of
Coface own subsidiaries in China and Taiwan. In 2003,
Richard Burton also successfully set up the agreement to
support Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of
China Ltd. to launch the first short term domestic trade
credit insurance in China, protecting enterprises in China
against the risk of non-payment.
Before his appointment to Hong Kong, Richard Burton had been
based in Paris
since 1994 as part of Coface¡¯s international development
team, where he was responsible for establishing businesses
in Chile
and
Brazil
and partnerships in many other countries.
Prior to Coface, Richard Burton worked as an independent
consultant in international finance, notably helping Eastern
European economies in transition and he spent several years
at the London Stock Exchange. He started his career as an
engineer in defense electronics.
